Video to GIF Converter
GIFs are still the fastest way to share a reaction, a product demo, or the best five seconds of a video. This converter turns any clip into a GIF right in your browser: choose where it starts, how long it runs, and how big it should be.
Most online converters upload your video to a server and hand back a watermarked, blurry result. Ours runs the open-source FFmpeg engine locally via WebAssembly, and uses a proper two-stage colour palette — the same technique professional tools use — so colours stay clean instead of dithered and speckled.
Because everything happens on your device, private clips stay private, there's no conversion queue, and the GIF is ready as fast as your computer can make it.
Powered by FFmpeg (open source) running in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How to use the video to gif
- 1
Choose your video
Pick an MP4, WebM, MOV, or MKV file from your device. It loads in your browser only — nothing is uploaded.
- 2
Pick the moment and size
Slide to the start point, choose a length (3–15 seconds), width (320–640px) and frame rate. 480px at 15fps is the sweet spot for messaging apps.
- 3
Create and download
Hit Create GIF, watch the progress, preview the result, and download it. File too big? Re-run narrower or at 10fps to roughly halve the size.
Why use this tool
Palette-based quality
A generated colour palette per clip means smooth gradients and accurate colours — not the washed-out look of cheap converters.
Full control of size
Start point, length, width, and FPS are all yours, with the final file size shown before you download so there are no surprises.
No upload, no watermark
Processing is 100% local in your browser. No server ever sees your video, and the GIF is yours, unbranded.
Made for sharing
Settings presets are tuned for Discord, WhatsApp, X, and forums — looping GIFs that load fast and play everywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded to a server?+
Never. FFmpeg runs inside your browser via WebAssembly, so the conversion happens on your own device. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
Why is my GIF file so big?+
GIF is an old, inefficient format — a few seconds of video can be several MB. Shrink it by choosing a shorter length, a 320px width, or 10fps. For anything longer than ~15 seconds, a compressed MP4 (try our video compressor) is the better format.
What's the best GIF length?+
3–8 seconds covers most reactions and demos. Every extra second adds file size, and most chat platforms cap GIF uploads around 10–25 MB.
Can I convert a video I downloaded from TikTok or Instagram?+
Yes — download the video first with our free downloader, then run the file through this converter. Any MP4, WebM, MOV, or MKV works.
Will the GIF have sound?+
No. The GIF format has never supported audio. If you need sound, keep the clip as video — our trimmer and compressor keep the audio track intact.
